Mike Sutarik

Major: Accountancy

Hometown: Aurora, Illinois

Anticipated Graduation Date: December 2011

What is your major and why did you choose it? I chose to be an accounting major because NIU has an outstanding progam that is constantly ranked among the top programs in the nation.

What activities or organization are you currently involved in? I am the Treasurer of the NIU College Republicans and I am a Financial Cents Peer Advisor.

Please list some of the awards and achievements that you have been recognized for? Academic Finalist Scholarship Recipient, Deans List and of course OSAS Student of the Month.

Why did you choose to come to NIU? I chose to come to NIU because of the great business school.  Both of my older brothers have graduated from the College of Business. I wanted to follow in their footsteps and the footsteps of many other great College of Business alumni that positively represent NIU in the professional world.

Please tell us your favorite thing about NIU? Almost everything.

How do you define success? I define success as accomplishing the goals that you have set for yourself, and having fun while you do it.

Can you think of an NIU Staff member who has helped you in your success at NIU and why? I would have to say that all of my Professors have helped push me to be successful.  Also, their input from their real world business careers has helped me learn what type of profession will fit me best after I graduate.

To what do you attribute your success as a student? I attribute my work hard, school comes first attitude to my success as a student.  I have had to pass up on numerous fun opportunities in order to focus on my school work.  But in order to be successful, it is important that you do take time to let loose and have fun, just as long as you leave time to focus on your school work.
