Academic Resources

We understand that the 2/14 attack may have affected students directly impacted in numerous ways. If your academic experience at NIU was impacted as a result we encourage you to contact the Office of Support & Advocacy (OSA) at 815-753-0940 to set up an appointment with our Academic Coordinator, Dino Martinez.

The OSA is also partnering with the Academic Advising Center to staff a part-time Academic Counselor who will work side-by-side with our Coordinator and they can assist with the unique needs of students directly impacted by the 2/14 tragedy.

The OSA Academic Coordinator can assist with:

Finding and providing suggestions on how to maximize your interaction with your college academic counselor. Click on this link to find information about your college advising office.
Discussing strategies for informing your college adviser, faculty, and instructors about how your academics have been affected by 2/14 (e.g., It may be difficult for some students to take future classes in large lecture settings).
Scheduling an individual tour of the buildings and rooms your classes are in before the start of the next semester.
Conversing about how to readjust your academic plan if you withdrew from any courses spring 2008.
Exploring other majors and minors if you are thinking about changing directions with your current program of study.
Working with you and your faculty to set up special accommodations (e.g., some students may not be able to adequately function during tests in large lecture settings and may need to take tests in a more private secure setting).
