Orientation Parking Information

Print your parking permit from the link in your confirmation e-mail and keep available for parking on your orientation date.  Only students who are coming to orientation in June, July, or August 4 and 5 will be e-mailed a parking permit.

Directions to the designated parking lot are given below. This is the only area reserved for orientation parking. If you have misplaced or forgotten your permit, inform one of the orientation leaders at the entrance of the garage and they will provide one for you. You will have an approximate five-minute walk to the Holmes Student Center (the orientation site) from the Parking Deck. Once inside the Holmes Student Center proceed to the Gallery Lounge (main floor) to check in.

From the West
From I-88 (Ronald Reagan Highway): Exit at Annie Glidden Road. Travel north on Annie Glidden Rd., turn right at Rt. 38/Lincoln Hwy., turn left onto Carroll Ave. (Pizza Hut on corner) where you will find the Visitor Pay Lot on the left and the Parking Deck (summer programs only) on the right.

From the East
From I-90: Exit onto Rt. 47 south. Take Rt. 47 to Rt. 38/Lincoln Hwy. west and travel approximately 15 miles to DeKalb where you will turn right at Carroll Ave. (Pizza Hut on corner) where you will find the Visitor Pay Lot on the left and the Parking Deck (summer programs only) on the right.

From the South
From I-39: Exit I-39 to I-88 east (Ronald Reagan Highway). Travel I-88 east to Annie Glidden Road exit. From the North

Complete your OneCard Online

Complete the OneCard ID Request Form online (http://www.niu.edu/onecard/getting/orientation.shtml) to have your OneCard processed, printed, and ready for pick-up on your orientation date

After obtaining your OneCard, get a head start by opening an optional TCF Bank checking account by visiting www.tcfbank.com/openNIU.


Plan for Housing

After you are officially admitted to the University, new students will automatically be sent residence hall information. If you need another copy, you may call Housing & Dining at 815-753-1525.

Complete Testing

Placement and proficiency testing must be complete prior to attending orientation. If you arrive for orientation but have not completed testing, you will be required to reschedule your orientation date. Review the Testing Services website (http://www.niu.edu/testing/) to help you determine if testing is required or recommended for your selected major as well as testing dates. Testing questions should be directed to the Office of Testing Services by phone at 815-753-1203, or by e-mail at testing@niu.edu.

If you are a transfer student and are uncertain if you have met the testing requirements, please contact your college office.
