Northern Illinois University has the responsibility to maintain the highest possible quality research and to provide for the humane care and treatment of animals used in teaching, testing, and research projects conducted at this institution, or under the direction of any employee or agent of this institution, whether funded or not, and regardless of source of funding. In compliance with Public Health Service (PHS) regulations, NIU has established an Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), whose members are appointed by the President or his or her designee to review all teaching, testing, and research involving animal subjects, and to set forth institutional policy regarding such activities.
