Academic Requirements
B.G.S in HHS degree requirements
- Complete 50 semester hours in core and elective courses selected in consultation with the B.G.S. advisor
- Include at least 21 semester hours (of the core and elective courses) in upper-division courses from the College of Health and Human Sciences with no more than 24 semester hours from the offerings of a single department in the College of Health and Human Sciences

Proficiency Credits:
Upon successful completion of these 50 semester hours, the student may be awarded up to 30 semester hours of proficiency credit for the learning experiences and education in the discipline in which he or she holds certification and/or licensure.
Other NIU Academic Requirements
- Complete 120 semester hours with at least 40 hours in upper-division courses
- Maintain at least a 2.00 GPA
- Complete university general education requirements
- Earn a minimum of 30 semester hours of NIU credit
