Food & Beverages

Vending machine snacks and beverages are available at all three Outreach Centers.
NIU Naperville also hosts an on-site deli where sandwiches, snacks and beverages can be purchased.  Only vending machine snacks and beverages may be taken into the classrooms.

Library Resources

Learning Resource Center (LRC)
Library resources are available online at the NIU Library website. Computers are available in the LRC to access these resources. A student needing online library resources may research without filling out a OneCard request.

For information they should go to the VPN authentication FAQ.

If a student wishes to check out library materials from the NIU main campus library, or through interlibrary loan (via I-Share catalog or OCLC WorldCat) they need to have a NIU OneCard.

Open study areas are available in the LRC, along with a copy machine.

Library One Cards (OneCard)
All NIU students, faculty and staff must use the OneCard to borrow or request library materials.  Off campus database authentication is established through the creation of a VPN.

Please see the OneCard FAQ  and the OneCard request form for students, faculty and staff at remote sites.

Students registered for only off-campus classes may contact the University OneCard ID Office at
815-753-9569, Holmes Student Center Room 7 to arrange to have a photo ID taken without coming to DeKalb. The University OneCard Office is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday. (Special arrangements may be made to have photos taken between 4 and 6 p.m., Monday-Friday, by contacting the office). A payment of $15 is required at the time of the appointment.

Reference Assistance
The LRC library staff offers student support, such as help with computers and navigation through web resources.

If you require in-depth assistance from a library subject specialist, use our Ask-A-Liberian service. From this page, students can open a chat session with a librarian, send an e-mail question, or look up the subject specialist librarian in many different areas of expertise. E-mail questions are routed to a subject specialist librarian who will respond within 48 hours, Monday-Friday.

Resources and Collections
For services available online, go to the library’s website and click on “Students” near the top banner. Some of the services and collections will be based on campus and in Founders Memorial Library, but many others are available online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
