OHSA 501 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry
This course is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as on those that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. This course allows the student to become a trainer in the Outreach Program and to conduct both a 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health course and to issue cards to participants verifying course completion. A laptop is strongly recommended. NOTE: Students in this class must successfully pass both a written and performance evaluation in order to earn their trainer card and the authorization to conduct 10- and 30-hour OSHA training.
See Course Schedule below
IMPORTANT!! NEW TRAINER VERIFICATION FORM MUST BE SIGNED AND COMPLETED PRIOR TO ENROLLING IN COURSE!!
Please note: Withdrawing from a course due to the participant's failure to meet course prerequisites will result in the participant being assessed a processing fee. Please check the course prerequisites carefully!
Please note: As of April 1, 2009, OTI Education Centers are not to accept a 30-hour outreach course as an equivalent to the OSHA 510 course. A replacement 30-hour outreach card must not be issued to any student who took the OSHA 510 course prior to April 1, 2009, unless they have also completed a separate 30-hour course.
Prerequisites: OSHA 511 and five years of general industry safety experience. A college degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation, in the applicable training area may be substituted for two years of experience. NOTE: Students in the OSHA 500 who wish to participate as authorized trainers in the Outreach Program must successfully pass both a written and performance exam at the end of the course. Any student not successfully passing BOTH portions will be issued a letter of attendance but not a card or certificate. Outreach trainers are required to attend OSHA 502 at least once every four years to maintain their trainer status.
Please Note: In the event a previously authorized trainer wishes to register for a trainer course but the expiration date on the trainer course card is more than ten (10) years old, all OTI Education Centers are required to enforce the current course prerequisites, which includes completing the 510 course. If the expiration date on the trainer card is less than ten (10) years old, and the participant is able to provide proper documentation, the student may be allowed to register for the trainer course without having to take the prerequisite 510 course. However, in this instance, the participant must provide documentation to the OTI Education Center in order to confirm the participant previously completed the applicable trainer course, including, at a minimum, the most recent applicable trainer card. If the participant is unable to provide the most recent applicable trainer card, they must be required to take the appropriate pre-requisite course.
