February is the month when the United States recognizes and celebrates its African heritage, and NIU has a variety of educational and social activities planned.
Members of the Black History Month Committee, who represent several different campus organizations, began planning this year’s events last fall. The kick-off celebration, held Feb. 1 at the Holmes Student Center, featured a traditional African culture exhibition, a performance by the NIU Black Choir, and was highlighted by the song and dance of Nana Camille Yarbrough, famous author, singer and performer.
A calendar detailing the activities throughout the month is available online. For more information, contact the Center for Black Studies at (815) 753-1709.
