Foundations of Excellence: All Students Dimension

March 30, 2009

The All Students Dimension is examining how well NIU identifies and addresses students’ abilities, backgrounds, interests, experiences and needs to provide safe and inclusive academic and social environments for all first-year students.

This committee differs from the Diversity Dimension because it focuses on the resources available to meet the needs of individuals or groups of students rather than on the diversity education and diverse interaction opportunities on the campus.

Committee members are in the process of collecting information from offices, student services and programs across campus that interact with first-year students.

The committee members will

  • identify patterns in the student and faculty/staff survey results;
  • take an active part in the review of and discussions about university and/or programmatic documents;
  • conduct interviews, focus groups, etc.;
  • recommend action plans; and
  • write a committee report on the dimension.

For additional information about, to participate in, or to provide information for the All Students Dimension, contact co-chairs Michelle Bringas (mbringas@niu.edu) or Colette Maher (cmaher@niu.edu).
