NIU Public Safety officers will be participating in a training exercise from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in and around Gilbert Hall.
The exercise, designed to simulate a situation involving an armed gunman, will include the use of simulated weapons and ammunition. Twenty-seven uniformed officers and five individuals in civilian clothing will participate in the exercise. The exercise is part of ongoing training designed to increase safety on campus.
The simulation is being conducted by the University of Louisville Crime Prevention Institute.
The Office of Admissions in Williston Hall will be open on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the summer months.
A walking campus tour will be offered at 12 noon, and admissions presentations will be given at 11:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. Admissions counselors will be available on a walk-in basis.
