Gregory Barrett

School of Music professor Gregory Barrett won second prize Aug. 12 in the research competition of the International Clarinet Association (ICA).

Barrett gave a 25-minute presentation at the ICA conference in Porto, Portugal, with slides and recorded sound examples about the “Musical World of Aage Oxenvad.” Oxenvad was the leading Danish clarinetist in the first half of the 20th century, and Carl Nielsen and other prominent Danish composers wrote several works for him.

Some of Oxenvad’s works are unpublished; Barrett found their manuscripts in the Royal Library in Copenhagen during his spring 2008 sabbatical.
