Joseph Petitti, a finance major at NIU, has been awarded a prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship for study in China this fall.
The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for undergraduate students to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy. Gilman Scholars receive as much as $8,000 for study abroad program costs.
The program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by the Institute of International Education’s (IIE) Southern Regional Center in Houston, Texas.
Applications for spring 2009 study abroad scholarships are due Oct.7, and are available at www.iie.org/gilman. Students receiving federal Pell Grants from two- and four-year institutions are encouraged to apply.
