The Pleiades chapter of Mortar Board at NIU was presented with the Silver Torch Award for the 2006-2007 academic year at the organizationís recent national conference.
NIUís chapter was one of 51 chapters to take home the Silver Torch Award, selected for their timeliness and dedication while exemplifying the ideals of scholarship, leadership and service. Patrick Kaiser, 2007-2008 chapter president, was present to accept the award on behalf of the group.
Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for outstanding achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Since its founding in 1918, the organization has grown from the four founding chapters to 223 chartered collegiate and 25 active alumni chapters with nearly a quarter of a million initiated members across the nation.
The Pleiades chapter at Northern Illinois University was founded in 1971.
