Creamer, Ebrahimi, Fehrenbach named
2007 Presidential Research Professors
NIU faculty members Winifred Creamer in anthropology, Nader Ebrahimi in statistics and Heide Fehrenbach in history have been awarded 2007 Presidential Research Professorships, the university’s top recognition for outstanding research.
“I am truly privileged to be part of the review and selection process that identifies the best of the best scholars at NIU,” says Rathindra Bose, vice president for research and dean of the Graduate School.
“These three faculty members have distinguished themselves in advancing their fields and achieving international recognition as outstanding scholars.”
The Presidential Research Professorships have been awarded annually since 1982 in recognition and support of NIU’s research and artistic mission. Award winners receive special financial support of their research for four years, after which they carry the title of Distinguished Research Professor.

Ghana Supreme Court justice visits NIU
Justice Modibo Ocran of the Ghana Supreme Court will serve as the College of Law’s 2007 scholar-in-residence this week and present Friday’s 14th annual Francis X. Riley Lecture on Professionalism.
A native of Ghana, Justice Ocran has served on the Ghana Supreme Court since 2004. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Akron Law School in Ohio, where he has been a faculty member for 20 years.
On Wednesday, April 18, he will participate in a panel discussion as part of the law school’s “Darfur Teach-In: Understanding the Regional and International Dimensions of a Humanitarian Crisis,” scheduled from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in Swen Parson Hall, Room 188.
The teach-in begins with a screening of the short film “Peace Under Fire: Sudan’s Darfur Crisis,” produced by the United Nations’ Integrated Regional Information Network.

Documentary on homeless students
will be screened Friday on campus
 Homeless advocate Diane Nilan is coming to NIU to share her newly released documentary, “My Own Four Walls,” a unique look athomeless kids’ insights on homelessness.
The documentary was co-produced by NIU Communication Professor Laura Vazquez. It will be screened as part of the child psychology brown bag series at noon Friday in Room 136 of the Psychology-Computer Science Building.
Nilan began traveling the country in her RV in November 2005, visiting non-urban areas to film interviews with kids about homelessness and school. Upon her return, she worked with Vazquez to compile her 75 interviews into a unique and powerful series of short documentaries, “My Own Four Walls.”
