Norman A. Stahl, professor and chair of the NIU Department of Literacy Education, was inducted as a Fellow of the American Council of Developmental Education Associations at the recent Feb. 17 conference of the National Association for Developmental Education in Philadelphia.
Stahl, a nationally known authority on postsecondary academic literacy research and instruction, came to NIU in 1986.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the American Council of Developmental Education Associations and to know that the field of higher education believes that one's work has helped students from across the nation achieve the dream of a postsecondary education,” Stahl said. “Developmental educators and learning assistance specialists have been serving colleges and universities such as Harvard University, the University of California at Berkeley, Northern Illinois University and Kishwaukee College with a proud legacy that spans over 150 years. Ever so many college graduates owe at least part of their academic success to individuals in the fields served by the ACDEA.”
Stahl is vice president of the National Reading Conference and has served as president of the College Reading Association and chair of the board of directors of the American Reading Forum as well.
