NIU homepage

NIU’s new Web design earned
high praise from Eric Hodgson, a blogger
for www.fuzzycontent.com.

Hodgson gears most of his posts “toward the right way to plan and organize a large Web presence. I use the word presenceonly because that’s what users experience. Not just your site, but everything on the Web related to you and relevant to them. Remember, it’s all about them.”

He included NIU’s new design, launched Oct. 5, among universities with homepages that do it right. His Oct. 30 post also mentioned Boston University, Cornell University, Duke University and Seattle University.

Of NIU, Hodgson wrote: “The big distinguishing point between NIU and other Web sites is how much real estate they devote to action. The main image drives to a particular action. Which, let’s be honest, is the main reason people visit your Web site … to do something.”

Promod Vohra

Promod Vohra, dean of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology, has been invited to become a member of the International Liaison Group for Engineering Education.

This independent working group is dedicated to promoting international activities in the field of engineering education. It consists of many outstanding international figures actively involved in engineering education and industrial training.

Among the primary goals of ILG-EE are the exchange of information to facilitate scientific cooperation and overcoming barriers that complicate the coordination of co-operative international research.

Vohra, who was recently honored for a paper he co-authored on the importance of internationalizing engineering education, said he is excited to join the organization.

“It is with great pride that I accept membership in this prestigious group,” he said. “My participation fits well with our goal of globalizing the college as it will provide us with important contacts at programs around the world.”
