Interviews scheduled for two Student Affairs candidates
Two candidates
for the vice president for Student Affairs position will interview
on campus this month.
Brian
Hemphill, associate vice chancellor for Student Affairs
and dean of students at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville
will arrive Sunday, June 13, for interviews Monday, June 14, and
Tuesday, June 15.
The open session
for faculty, staff and students is from 11 a.m. to noon Monday,
June 14, in Room 305 of the Holmes Student Center.
Thomas
Rios, assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs-Research
& Assessment, at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, will
arrive Tuesday, June 22, for interviews Wednesday, June 23, and
Thursday, June 24. The open session for faculty, staff and students
is from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, June 23, in HSC Room 305.
The vice president
for Student Affairs is a key member of the NIU’s senior leadership,
and a member of the President’s Cabinet.
He or she is
responsible for the leadership, management, development and coordination
of student services, programs and activities throughout the division,
which includes career planning and placement, counseling and student
development, housing and dining services, judicial office, health
services, accessibility resources, campus child care, campus recreation,
students’ legal assistance, programming and activities, and the
campus paper.
Because these
responsibilities support the academic success of the students, the
person in this position is expected to work closely and creatively
with Academic Affairs to ensure that students receive a rich and
rewarding experience while enrolled at NIU.
