Kudos

Congratulations to volunteer extraordinaire Denise Stauder, NIU's marketing and program development manager for eLearning Services. Maryville University in St. Louis recently awarded Stauder its 2002 Alumni Volunteer Achievement Award. It seems that volunteering is second nature to Stauder, who is past president of the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago. She has served on the association's board of directors since the 1980s and two years ago received its highest award, the DeYoung Medal. Stauder also was the first female president of the First Friday Club of Chicago. She served on the board of directors of the Chicago Chamber Choir and was an officer of the Junior Governing Board of the Chicago Symphony. She was instrumental in winning the first Illinois Arts Council grant to subsidize college students attending the symphony. Currently Stauder is active in the Association Forum, is a member of the Chicago chapter of the American Society of Training and Development and serves as a lector and auxiliary minister at Old St. Patrick's Church in Chicago.

The Campus Activities Board Fine Arts Committee recently learned it will receive three separate grants totaling nearly $15,000, thanks to the work of grant-writing team members Carolyn Vitkus, Bertram Dugan and Mary Tosch. The Illinois Arts Council is awarding the committee with a Presenter's Development grant of $9,450. It will be used to support the entire Fine Arts Series. The Heartland Art Fund has earmarked $1,800 for the Ballet Concierto De Puerto Rico. The money will help cover costs associated with the artist's fee, a master class and a lecture/school demonstration with an area school district. Finally, the Illinois Arts Council Arts Tour is giving the committee $3,710 for the Joel Hall Dancers. It will be used for the artist's fee and two master classes.
