Tracy Nunnally, technical director for the NIU School of Theatre and Dance, has been involved in two off-campus productions of note.
Nunnally served as flight choreographer for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company's production of "Beating of Wings," choreographed by Doug Varone and featuring dancer Sheri "Sparkle" Williams. It is one of several dances commissioned by the American Dance Festival to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first powered flight of the Wright Brothers.
He worked with Varone in Durham, N.C., to create the piece in June and ran the flight for the national premier of the piece June 13-15 at the American Dance Festival at Duke University. He re-created the effect Oct. 5 and 6 in Dayton for the home audience. Nunnally also worked as technical director for the Abbey Theatre of Dublin, Ireland, on "Medea," directed by Deborah Warner and featuring lead Fiona Shaw. This Greek tragedy originated at the Abbey Theatre in 2000 and played the Queen's Theatre in London's West End for quite some time. It began its U.S. tour a few weeks ago, when Nunnally was brought on board.
The show has played the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Power Center in Ann Arbor. It currently is playing at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston, and will be at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and the Zellerbach Theatre in Berkley, Calif.
