KudosLarry Bolles, director of the University Judicial Office, recently received the 2001 Distinguished Service Award from the Association for Student Judicial Affairs. Bolles, one of the founding members of the organization, was recognized for his outstanding service to the group. The award was presented at a Feb. 10 ceremony in Clearwater Beach, Fla. The group has 1,300 members, including some from the United States, Canada and the Caribbean.
NIU's Deaf Volleyball Team took first place in the annual Waubonsee Community College Invitational tournament Feb. 23. The team of 11 deaf and hard-of-hearing students from NIU is led by faculty advisor Jenifer Montag. After practicing since late September, the team competed against six other college and university teams from within the state of Illinois. This is the fourth consecutive year NIU's team has won the championship.
Pete West, director of the Learning Center in the College of Education, recently was elected president-elect of the Chicago Chapter of the American Society for Training and Development. The organization includes more than 1,400 human resource professionals who work in the greater Chicago metropolitan area. Joyce Lieberman, an assistant professor in the Department of Leadership in Educational and Sport Organizations, presented a paper titled, "Administrative Support for Teachers Seeking National Board Certification: What, Why, and How," in San Diego in mid-February. Lieberman spoke at the 2002 National Conference on Education-American Association of School Administrators/National Council of Professors of Education Administration Conference-within-a Conference. |
