SUBMIT CREATIVE WORK FOR STUDENT EXHIBITION "Impressions from Diversity," a student exhibit sponsored by Affirmative Action and Diversity Resources and the College of Visual and Performing Arts, is scheduled for April 21 through May 5, in the Holmes Student Center art gallery. The exhibition is open to all NIU students, and faculty/staff should encourage students to participate. The exhibition is inclusive of all art media or documentation of artistic production/performance, including musical and theatrical performances and literary work. To be eligible, the work must be suitable for display hanging or installed on pedestals in a traditional gallery setting. Works will be selected for purchase from the exhibition in first, second and third "best in show" categories. These participants will receive cash awards of $400, $300 and $200. CALL FOR SERVICE LEARNING PROPOSALS The Illinois Campus Compact is seeking proposals for five different mini-grant programs on service learning. Titles of the grant programs include: student citizen fellows, community service director fellows, community engagement, partnership in action and campus community dialogue. Grant awards range from $1,000 to $3,000. The deadline for applying is Saturday, Sept. 14, (for the partnerships in action grant) and Friday, April 19, (for the other four grants). Applications should be submitted through NIU's Office of Sponsored Projects. VERMEER QUARTET TO PERFORM HAYDN PIECE NIU's legendary Vermeer Quartet will perform Haydn's "The Seven Last Words of Christ" during a special concert Tuesday, March 26. Members of the quartet, who also released a compact disc featuring the work and have performed it for millions of listeners around the world, will appear with Dr. Martin Marty, professor emeritus at the University of Chicago, and the Rev. Leroy Mitchell, director of NIU's CHANCE program. Marty also will lead an informal, public discussion with faculty and students at 3:30 p.m. in the Heritage Room of the Holmes Student Center. Immediately before the concert, Vermeer Quartet members Marc Johnson and Richard Young will give a 7:15 p.m. lecture in the Boutell Memorial Concert Hall, where they will perform at 8:15 p.m. Admission is free, and the Music Building is accessible to all. "Universal Instructional Design" will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21. "Using Real Presenter Plus" will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, March 22. "Blackboard™ III (Advanced)" will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, March 25. Priority will be given to faculty and teaching SPS. INSTRUCTORS NEEDED FOR CONNECTIONS The Freshman Connections program is looking for faculty and staff to serve as instructors or mentors to NIU students. The program includes UNIV 101, a course designed to introduce students to NIU; Students Faculty Links, a mentoring program that pairs students with an NIU employee; and Passport to Success, an incentive program that encrouages students to be involved in the campus and local communities.
