NIU celebrates Body Image Awareness Week
NIU students, faculty and staff can improve their body image through a variety of activities held in celebration of Body Image Awareness Week.
NIU CARES (Collegiate Awareness Regarding Eating Smart) and the Counseling and Student Development Center will sponsor the activities held today through Friday. A few of the scheduled events include:

"Mirror Images," an interactive group session on body image issues, will be held at 6 p.m. today in the Carl Sandburg Auditorium in the Holmes Student Center. Denise Reens, director of training and development for Alpha Phi International Fraternity, Inc., will be the presenter.

"Referring Someone with an Eating Disorder," a question and answer session by Counseling and Student Development Center Counselor Jacqueline Barczak, will be held at noon Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Blackhawk East Room in the Holmes Student Center.

The showing of "Shrek" and a film discussion on beauty and body image will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the Diversions Lounge in the Holmes Student Center.

The second annual Body Fair will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, in the Neptune Hall fireside lounge. Various booths will feature information and activities for the body.

"Fearless Friday: A Day Without Dieting" encourages people to ditch dieting and diet products on Friday, March 1. Containers will be available on campus to throw away products such as diet pills, diet shakes, diet books and low carbohydrate eating plans.
