HR: A Strategic Partner in Sustainability Planning and Implementation

Course Description:
Today's successful and competitive organizations embrace initiatives promoting sustainability and "greening" of the organization.  HR plays a key role in developing an internal culture that supports the goals of the organization.

The format will be panel presentation by representatives of organizations that have successfully initiated sustainability programs and received the Illinois Governor's Award for Sustainability.

Panelist Questions

• How does HR support sustainability?
• What roadblocks/obstacles did you encounter and what were the lessons learned?
• What resources, grants (DCEO, etc.) did you access?
• What was the impetus to get started?
• What impact has this initiative had on the organization's culture/people? How did you get employees/customers to embrace this initiative?
• Are you branding, recruiting, marketing around the "green" theme?
• How do you measure profitability, success, payback, value and contributions to corporate social responsibility?

Exhibits
Organizations providing panelists may be invited to have a table top exhibit to promote program/products and bring one company representative (not to serve on panel) as a guest. In addition, NIU, ISC, Local Community Colleges, DCEO may be invited to participate with exhibits.

HR Certification Institute Continuing Education Credit
HR Certification Institute has pre-approved this program and awards 2.0 hours of HRCI credit for PHR, SPHR, and GPHR recertification.
