NIU's PHR/SPHR review course blends self-study learning activities with scheduled online class meetings using three tools: The SHRM Learning System, Adobe Connect and Blackboard. As with the face-to-face classes, students are expected to have assignments completed before class meetings.

Fees are inclusive of the SHRM Learning System course materials, online resources and access to the NIU Blackboard Community. Student materials will be shipped 7 - 10 days prior to the class start date. Participants registering within 5 days of class start may experience a brief delay in access to Blackboard online study resources due to processes required for assignment of user ID’s. Details for log-in and technical requirements are available at www.shrmonline.niu.edu. Participants will receive e-mail instructions for scheduling a technology check with the eLearning technical support team a few days prior to the first class session.

NIU offers courses at multiple locations providing convenient access to the program. NIU also offers customized in-house courses for companies desiring to enroll multiple employees. Admission and Eligibility of HRCI Exam Candidates: HR Certification Institute requires candidates applying to take the PHR/SPHR certification examinations to have a minimum of two (2) years exempt level HR experience. It is the candidate’s responsibility to confirm they meet the examination qualifications and eligibility requirements with HR Certification Institute www.hrci.org prior to enrolling in this course. NIU Outreach is a provider of the SHRM Learning System prep course but assumes no responsibility or authority for the eligibility, application and admission of candidates, examination processes and award of credentials.
Special rates are available to participants who have pre-purchased the 2011 SHRM Learning System course materials, current NIU undergraduate/graduate students preparing to take the PHR Exam as a student candidate, or past program participants who have completed the NIU program in the fall of 2010 or spring of 2011.
