NIU and Mount Royal University Continuing Education partner to offer the IIA’s CIA Review Learning System Online.

The Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) is the standard by which internal audit professionals demonstrate their knowledge and competence in the areas of governance, risk and control. Offered through a partnership between Northern Illinois University, Mount Royal University and The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), this comprehensive four-part CIA review program teaches the entire CIA exam syllabus and is based on The IIA’s CIA Learning System™, a premier-quality professional development and exam preparation program.

In this 100% online review course the CIA Review Learning System print and online materials are combined with practical examples from NIU’s College of Business faculty to provide a well-rounded learning experience. Upon completion of the program, candidates are not only ready to take the exam, but apply newfound knowledge into their day-to-day routine.

Jay Mages CPA, CIA, MBA
Jay is a Partner with R&M Consulting LLC based in Chicago, IL. and assumes leadership and management for all internal audit projects including: quality assurance review, Sarbanes-Oxley testing, development of comprehensive internal audit manuals and project management for a variety of large corporations. His background includes more than twenty years experience in the Internal Audit profession. Jay holds a BS in Business from Indiana University and a MBA with Distinction from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management

The Internal Audit Activity's Role in Governance, Risk and Control covers topics relative to compliance with the IIA's attribute standards, risk and control knowledge elements, establishing priorities of the internal audit activity, and planning the internal audit engagement. Participants will gain an understanding of the nature of internal audit work in risk management, control and governance.

Admission and Eligibility of CIA Exam Candidates

CIA candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) or its educational equivalent from an accredited college-level institution. Applicants must meet the education requirement before their CIA application can be approved and before they can register and sit for any CIA exam parts. Full-time undergraduate students in their senior year may sit for the exam. Professionals holding qualified certifications may receive professional recognition credit for Part 4 of the CIA® exam. Educators may be eligible to have exam fees waived.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to confirm they meet the examination qualifications and eligibility requirements with Institute of Internal Auditors (www.theiia.org) prior to enrolling in this course. NIU Outreach is a provider of the IIA’s CIA Review Learning System® prep course but assumes no responsibility or authority for the eligibility, application and admission of candidates, examination processes and award of credentials.

Online Course Requirements

Course requirements for award of a certificate of completion and 15.5 hours of continuing professional education credit for each of Parts 1-3 and 7.5 hours of continuing professional education credit for Part 4 are as follows: Review of all audio narrated PowerPoint presentations (online); Completion of all www.learnCIA.com practice exams with a score of 80% or better; Completion of the online post course examination (within 1 week of course end) with a score of 80% or better.

The Illinois Veterans Grant and the Illinois National Guard Grant programs cover tuition and certain fees for eligible students. Charges for non-credit programs offered by NIU-Outreach are not based on university-wide tuition and fee calculations determined by the university and approved by its governing board. The Illinois Veterans Grant and Illinois National Guard Grant do not cover these charges.
