The 3-Part Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA) Exam Review Program

Refine your skills in finance and accounting practices while preparing to earn Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA) credentials. Each review series is designed to prepare you to take – and pass – your exam while providing current industry standards and best practices, opportunities for peer networking and interaction with regional experts.

The CIA designation is the only globally accepted certification for internal auditors and remains the standard by which individuals demonstrate their competency and professionalism. Candidates complete the program enriched with educational experience, information, and business tools that can be applied immediately in organization and business environments

The internal audit function is an effective assurance and consulting function designed to evaluate and improve effective risk management, control and governance processes. Internal auditors have obtained prominent status in most corporations and CPA firms. In addition, internal audit has proved to be an effective training ground for potential managers. Northern Illinois University is proud to be one of the three university partners selected by the IIA to deliver online CIA Exam Review courses. This format offers the busy finance professional an opportunity to prepare for the prestigious CIA accreditation anytime, anywhere. The IIA's CIA Review Learning System® print and online materials and practical application examples, study and test taking tips, provided by NIU Instructors, provide a well-rounded learning experience. Upon completion of the program, candidates are not only ready to take the exam, but apply newfound knowledge into their day-to-day routine.

  • Part 1 and 2 courses are offered over a dedicated 6 week window. The Part 3 course is offered as a 12 week course.

Online Course Requirements

Requirements for award of a certificate of completion and award of continuing professional education credit for part include: Review of all audio-narrated PowerPoint presentations (online); completion of all www.learnCIA.com practice exams with a score of 80% or better; completion of the online post-course examination (within 1 week of course end) with a score of 80% or better.

Instructor

Jay Mages CPA, CIA, MBA 
Jay is a Partner with R&M Consulting LLC based in Chicago, IL. and assumes leadership and management for all internal audit projects including: quality assurance review, Sarbanes-Oxley testing, development of comprehensive internal audit manuals and project management for a variety of large corporations. His background includes more than twenty years experience in the Internal Audit profession. Jay holds a BS in Business from Indiana University and a MBA with Distinction from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

Admission and Eligibility of CIA Exam Candidates

CIA candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher degree) or its educational equivalent from an accredited college-level institution. Applicants must meet the education requirement before their CIA application can be approved and before they can register and sit for any CIA exam parts. Full-time undergraduate students in their senior year may sit for the exam. Any questions about candidate eligibility should be directed to the Institute of Internal Auditors (www.theiia.org). Educators may be eligible to have exam fees waived.

It is the candidate’s responsibility to confirm they meet the examination qualifications and eligibility requirements with Institute of Internal Auditors prior to enrolling in this course. NIU Outreach is a provider of the IIA’s CIA Review Learning System® prep course but assumes no responsibility or authority for the eligibility, application and admission of candidates, examination processes and award of credentials.

Illinois Veterans and Illinois National Guard Grant Programs: This program is not eligible for funding under the IL Veterans and IL National Guard Grants. IVG and ING grants apply only to those programs assessing tuition and mandatory fees. NIU Outreach is licensed to deliver this program by the sponsoring professional organization. The registration fee for this program is not based on tuition and fees and includes course materials, licensing fees, catering services, and instructional costs not covered by the IVG/ING grants. 

Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Funding: Certain unemployed or underemployed Illinois candidates may be eligible to receive funding for this program under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA).
