NIU Outreach - Professional Development & Training

ASTD's HPI Certificate Series:
Human Performance Improvement in the Workplace

Gain the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance your reputation for providing results-oriented solutions that impact your organization’s bottom line with NIU and the American Society for Training and Development’s (ASTD) Human Performance Improvement Certificate Program.

ASTD's Human Performance Improvement in the Workplace is the prerequisite for all other HPI courses.

You will learn:

  • Practical experience using application exercises designed to develop competencies and decision-making skills
  • Opportunities to network with peers, share “real world” experiences, and apply what they learn to the workplace
  • Leading-edge content, including insight and teaching from a  cross-section of thought leaders in the industry, in a  hands-on learning environment
  • Skills and knowledge necessary to prepare a portfolio for review for the Certified Performance Technologies (CPT) certification designation

As an industry, training and development is changing.  Emphasis is shifting from traditional classroom training as a solution to performance issues to looking at the entire system where the performance issue is occurring through the lens of human performance improvement.

Upon completion of this program you will be able to do the following:

  • Describe the origins and major theories of HPI
  • Name and explain the relationships between the steps in the HPI process
  • Examine and apply analysis models to determine the performance gap and its root causes
  • Describe a process to evaluate the impact of interventions
  • Outline a strategy for selecting interventions that addresses the root causes of performance gaps
  • Identify standard practices and relationships engaged in by performance consultants
