General Information

The NIU Physics Department is located in Faraday West Hall and Faraday Hall on the main NIU campus in DeKalb, Illinois. The main office is in 202 Faraday West. The entrance to Faraday West is on the east side of Normal Road, just north of Lincoln Highway (State Route 38) and about 2 miles north of Interstate 88. We are about 65 west of Chicago, 30 miles west of Fermilab, and 60 miles northwest of Argonne National Lab.

Here is a link to maps of NIU showing the location of the Physics department.

Faraday West is under the label 45 on the map. There is a pay parking lot for visitors located just to the left of the label 37 on the map. There is also a parking garage for faculty, staff and students located just across Normal Road from Faraday West. A permit is required to park in the garage during normal school hours, but it is free after hours, on weekends, and holidays.

Here is another map with less detail. The visitor parking lot and the parking deck are shown. The Physics Department is not shown but is midway between the College of Law and SR 38.
