What will the workshop cover?
This workshop will provide participants with a comprehensive introduction to the concept of No Child Left Inside so that they can integrate it in their courses to teach students. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be able to design a plan to teach about environmental awareness that is infused within their curricula which will lead to development of environmentally literate citizens who are able to think critically and make informed environmental decisions.

Who should attend?
The workshop uses a process-oriented approach that any educator can learn and integrate into relevant courses and curricula. Educators in junior high and high schools who teach science or related courses are especially encouraged to attend. The workshop for non formal educators does not require a science background, but an understanding of environmental concepts and the impact of human activities on the natural environment is necessary.

Seats are limited to first 25 registrants, so register early.

When, where, and how long is this workshop?
The workshops will be held on January 24, 2009 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Russell Woods Nature Center at 11750 State Rt. 72, Genoa, IL 60135 in DeKalb County, Illinois. Registered participants will be sent directions to workshop location and other information. Participants can attend only one of the two workshops.

What will participants get?
Participants will receive workshop materials, certificate of participation, lunch and refreshments, and $100 stipend after completing the workshop. CPDU credits are also available. Participants will also have the opportunity to network with other educators and work on strategies for integrating NCLI concept into their courses and curricula as applicable.

Who will present this workshop?
Dr. Sabiha S. Daudi, Assistant Professor, Department of Teaching and Learning and Dr. Murali Krishnamurthi, Director and Associate Professor, Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center) at Northern Illinois University, will present this workshop. Ms. Peggy Doty, Director, Russell Woods Nature Center will serve as the facilitator for this workshop.

The workshop is funded by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency and sponsored by the Department of Teaching and Learning, College of Education and Faculty Development and Instructional Design Center at Northern Illinois University.
