As the grant PI, McCord has convened meetings of the grant steering and advisory committees, in addition to attending the NSF ADVANCE grantee 2010 meeting. McCord has contributed to the creation of a climate survey and focus group protocols. McCord also advances the priorities of the grant through advocacy and policy direction within the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. As a member of the Council of Deans, he will also advocate for grant priorities across all NIU colleges in 2011-2012.

McCord has been an administrator for 13 years and has led or been involved in numerous projects addressing faculty success and retention, mentoring, strategic planning, hiring, and STEM initiatives. Examples include helping design the articulation phase of NIU's strategic planning process and leading CLAS in that process; evaluating salary equity issues at NIU and the U. of Cincinnati (UC); helping to create the Taft Research Center at UC and serving as the founding director of UC's Preparing Future Faculty program. McCord's mathematical research has been supported by the USEPA and NSF.
