Senior Student Affairs Officers

Nothing can be more challenging for us as professionals and as individuals than to deal with crises and the harm suffered by students in many of these situations. Besides the nuts and bolts of responding to an incident, it is also important to acknowledge the heart of the response: why we do what we do and what it means to the institution and to those involved. Brent Paterson, one of the editors of the NASPA monograph, “Crisis Management: Responding from the Heart”, will share what he has learned from his extensive experience in responding to student crises and what we can learn from other contributors to the monograph. This session is designed specifically for senior student affairs officers. It will include a presentation by Brent Paterson, the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs at Illinois State University as well as a roundtable discussion.
