Diane Ragains holds the B.M. degree from Indiana University and the M.M. degree from the Chicago Conservatory.  A soprano, Ragains enjoys a wide reputation throughout the United States as both performer and teacher.  Her background includes degrees in both violin and voice.  Ragains made her vocal debut with the Chicago Symphony, Seiji Ozawa conducting, in Orff's Carmina Burana.  She has been a regular soloist with Chicago's Grant Park Concerts, Chicago Opera Theatre, and the Contemporary Chamber Players at the University of Chicago.  Her interest in contemporary music has given her a broad and varied repertoire including Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire, Ginastera's Cantata para America Magica, and Crumb's Ancient Voices of Children.  Ragains received the NIU Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 1981.
