Ben Wahlund is a Grammy nominated, award-winning music educator, composer, and performer who lives in the Chicago area. He graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Masters Degree in Music Theory and Composition and a Performance Certificate in Percussion. Mr. Wahlund's undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Music Performance with minors in Mathematics and Philosophy/Theology were earned at the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Mr. Wahlund serves as the Director of Percussion at the College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, IL), conducts the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra's Percussion Ensemble (Chicago, IL) and is Program Director for the Birch Creek Summer Music Performance Center's Percussion and Steelband Session in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin. His music compositions have won numerous international awards and are performed by professionals around the world - published by Bachovich Music, HoneyRock Publications, and Innovative Percussion.
Locally, Ben Wahlund is a percussion specialist for Naperville, IL School District 203 where he directs the NCHS Drumshow – a high school percussion ensemble concert that draws over 2,000 paying audience members in one weekend (www.nchsdrumshow.com) – and enjoys teaching many successful private students in his home studio, Black Dog Music Studio (www.blackdogmusicstudio.com). Ben Wahlund performs as part of area orchestras, ¡The Screaming Norwegians! Percussion Duo, the Naper Chamber Players, and endorses Innovative Percussion Sticks and Mallets and Sabian Cymbals.
