Bachelor's degree options for brass instrumentalists include Performance, Music Education, Jazz Studies, Composition, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music. Master of Music programs are available in Performance, the Individualized specialization (which would include Jazz Studies), and Music Education. We also offer the post-master's Performer's Certificate.

Applied brass instruction is provided in a variety of private and group settings. In addition to several chamber groups featuring brass instruments, students audition for and participate in the NIU Philharmonic, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Symphony each semester. Music Education majors and other interested students may participate in the Marching Band. The NIU School of Music has several opportunities for jazz performance, and these ensembles are available to any student by way of audition.
