Vocal students at Northern Illinois University study privately and in classes with Orna Arania, Nancy Henninger, Myron Myers, Diane Ragains, and Robert Sims. Ensembles are directed by Eric Johnson and James Tucker.
Bachelor's degree options include Performance, Music Education, Jazz Studies, Composition, and the Bachelor of Arts in Music. Master of Music programs are available in Performance, the Individualized specialization, and Music Education. We also offer the post-master's Performer's Certificate.
Applied voice instruction is provided in a variety of private and group settings. All vocal students audition for and participate in either the Concert Choir or University Chorus each semester. More select performance venues are Chamber Choir and Opera Workshop. The NIU School of Music has several opportunities for jazz performance, and vocalists are often invited to participate in those.
