John Floeter joined the NIU School of Music faculty in 1999. A graduate of DePaul University, John has a significant presence as a bassist in the Chicago area. He regularly appears as Principal Bass for the Chicago Sinfonietta, the Joffrey Ballet, and as a Section Bass for the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra. He is a frequent substitute in the bass sections of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, and many other noted area ensembles.
A former faculty member at Harper College, Elmhurst College, and Northeastern Illinois University, John has studied bass with Joseph Guastefeste and Warren Benfield of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Brian Ferguson of the Lyric Opera, Stuart Sankey of the Aspen Music Festival and Indiana University, and Lawrence Hurst of the University of Michigan.
