Theo Poole is a transfer student from Chicago. Before he enrolled at NIU, Theo worked full-time in his business. However, he wanted to return to school and enrolled at Malcolm X College. Theo chose political science as his major because his goal is to hold public office in the future as a senator or congressman. Theo chose to transfer to NIU because of the diversity of students and experiences. At NIU, he is able to meet different people from all over the world. Also, the professors at NIU are relatable and approachable.
Theo’s tip to new NIU students is to utilize the resources on campus, like the tutors and teaching assistants, to help with the transition from high school or community college. Also, he advises new students to ask upper-class students for guidance. Outside the classroom, Theo’s hobbies include exercising at the gym, cooking and baking. Theo will be graduating in May 2017 and will be the first person in his family to receive a bachelor’s degree. Afterwards, he will be starting a dual program to receive his law degree and masters in business administration.
