Mortar Board recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community.
The mortarboard is a symbol of ancient honor and distinction that carries with it grave responsibilities. In the earliest universities, students adopted the clerical or monastic robes as a sign that they were devoting their lives to the profession of learning, in recognition of which they received certain privileges. Such recognition is conferred upon Mortar Board members, and such responsibility is our privilege. Thus, we have adopted the mortarboard.
Our national service project is “Reading is Leading.”
