Memorial Service Invocation

Let us all stand. And may we now join in prayer.

We gather tonight asking for grace and mercy to fall upon us all, grace and mercy to heal broken hearts, and grace and mercy to uplift down turned heads. We pray for grace and mercy to heal all bruised spirits.

We ask special blessings upon each family that they might be uplifted, that they might be revived. And we think of those who are still in the fight trying to overcome and physically overcome this tragedy. We think of all of us. We ask blessings upon all of us, physically and mentally and emotionally, that we too might be revived.

And finally, we pray that there will emerge from this place a collective response that will not be silent, that will not be deterred – a collective response that reflects the resolve of each of us here tonight, that we will not let darkness alter or extinguish our light.

We pray for a collective response that will be broadcast all over the world that no act of violence, no act of terror, no fear or doubt will cause us to retreat from our resolve; that we will not let darkness alter or extinguish our light.

And so we pray, forward, together forward, our light will shine forevermore. This then is our prayer. This then is our petition. Amen.
