Job, internship fairs scheduled at NIU in February

DeKalb, Ill. — Students looking for a major-related career experience prior to graduation or to jumpstart their career plans are encouraged to attend the February job and internship fairs at Northern Illinois University.

The Internship Fair is Wednesday, Feb. 17, and the Job Fair is Wednesday, Feb. 24. Both fairs are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are held at the NIU Convocation Center.

Admission to the Job Fair is free for NIU students, $5 for alumni and $10 for any non-NIU member. Admission to the Internship Fair is free to all. A résumé is required at the registration table for admittance to each fair.

A convenient shuttle service will be available for the fairs that will run from the Holmes Student Center’s east door (Normal Road) to the Convocation Center.

These are premier events that provide opportunities to meet face-to-face prior to graduation with a wide array of potential full-time and internship employers. More than 100 employers will attend in hopes of hiring interns and upcoming graduates enrolled in all NIU majors.

The career fairs are student-centered learning events. Employer representatives provide students with information about job openings, internships and the interview process. In addition to learning about employers, students gain the experience of approaching employers and presenting themselves as prospective employees in their chosen fields.

Students should bring plenty of résumés to leave with the employers they meet. Dress for each event in business attire.

Students also are encouraged to research participating employers before the career fairs either online or at the Career Resource Center. Information about the fairs, participating employers, finding a job or an internship, writing a résumé or preparing for an interview can be found at the NIU Career Services Web site at www.niu.edu/careerservices.

Perfect Interview is available to enhance interviewing skills by creating a realistic simulated interview. Students can use Perfect Interview on the Career Services Web site 24/7 with a webcam or can call (815) 753-1641 to arrange an appointment to use Perfect Interview in the Career Services office.

Students can schedule an appointment with a career counselor on NIU’s campus by calling (815) 753-1642. The NIU Career Resource Center in Room 235 of the Campus Life Building provides walk-in student résumé critiques, practice interviews and the ability to research employers through Victor eRecruiting, an online job search database.
