Many educational institutions televise seminars and programs that are available via satellite downlink. Media Services can receive those transmissions and help send them to your classroom.
For general inquiries regarding Media Services’ satellite downlink services, call George Morisette, Chief TV Engineer at 815-753-0177.
Receiving a Satellite Downlink
Media Services can arrange to receive a program from a satellite downlink and make it available in classrooms and other rooms that are wired with our campus cable TV system. If you have the ability to receive campus cable TV in your room, then we can relay the satellite teleconference program to your location on Campus Channel 22.
E-mail the information needed on this checklist (125.6KB .PDF file) to jbollenbach@niu.edu or call Jim Bollenbach, Head of Media Technical Services at 815-753-6677 to schedule a downlink. Once the equipment is reserved for the date of your downlink, additional technical information is needed (75.5KB .PDF file) at least 24 hours in advance of your satellite downlink. This information can usually be obtained in the promotional brochure for the program or we can help direct you to where to get the information.
Off- Air Recording
Media Services can record satellite downlink programs for later use in classrooms provided the instructor follows Kastenmeier Guidelines for Off-Air Recording for Educational Uses.
