Prof. M. Kostic was appointed to serve on the National Science Foundation (NSF)’s Nanoscale Interdisciplinary Research Team (NIRT) Review Panel in Washington, DC on March 13, 2007. Kostic was on the Panel to review the cutting edge multidisciplinary research proposals in “Active Nanostructures and Nanosystems (ANN)", a program on collaborative research and education in the area of active nanostructures and nanosystems, and on the long-term social change associated with these innovations.
The goal of this program is to support fundamental research and catalyze synergistic science and engineering research and education in several emerging areas of nanoscale science and technology, including: fundamental nanoscale phenomena and processes in active nanostructures; nanosystems with improved functionality and new architectures; hierarchical nanomanufacturing; and long-term societal and educational implications of scientific and technological advances on the nanoscale - see Institute for Nano-Science, Engineering & Technology (InSET) and has been collaborating as a Faculty Research Participant at Argonne National Laboratory, including a patent-pending innovation for nanofluids production.
Kostic is active in developing a nanofluids research team and proposals in collaboration with Drs. Lin and Lurio from the NIU Chemistry and Physics Departments. Kostic’s activities and accomplishments have been recognized by his inclusion in the NSF NIRT Review Panel, among the most recognized researchers in nanoscience and nanotechnology.
