
Eligibility: All full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty, instructors, and supportive professional staff at NIU are eligible to apply. Those selected to participate will receive a $1,000 stipend, $500 to be disbursed upon completion of the institute and $500 upon submission of a final report and oral presentation of outcomes during the fall semester following the institute. Those on twelve month contracts can apply and participate in the institute, but are ineligible to receive the stipend.

Selection Process: All applications will be reviewed by committee members and applicants will be informed of the outcome usually by March of each year. Selection criteria will be based on the quality of the application, the anticipated impact of the transformed course, and the support of the chair or supervisor.
Institute Schedule: Institute sessions are usually scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday to Friday during the week after final exams in May at the Holmes Student Center. A reception for the plenary speaker and past participants may also be held one evening during the week when the institute is scheduled. Participants will be notified in advance about the institute schedule for a particular year.
Stipends: As noted above, the first $500 will be distributed to participants as additional pay upon completion of the institute, and the remaining $500 will be distributed as additional pay upon completion of a written report and oral presentation during the fall semester following the institute.
