“Student Social Media Consultants” is a social group that utilizes NIU’s brand and resources to facilitate better social networking for its students.
“Student Social Media Consultants” is located at Northern Illinois University.
ARTICLE I. NAME
The name of this organization is the “Student Social Media Consultants.” (SSMC)
ARTICLE II: PURPOSE
The “Student Social Media Consultants” will help NIU in promoting friendship and networks among its student body and faculty and foster the new media, research and outreach missions of the University.
ARTICLE III: MEMBERSHIP
Membership in SSMC shall be open to all members of the University student body following completion and submission of a membership application. SSMC Executive Officers and Faculty Advisors will review applications and invite members. Members must maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. The organization will consist of 10 student members, including Executive Officers.
ARTICLE IV: MEETINGS
The “Student Social Media Consultants” shall hold a weekly meeting each semester. Special meetings may be called by the Officers. The date of any meetings shall be posted in at least two locations online (website or social network) and the membership shall be informed, in writing (e-mail), at least ten days in advance.
The quorum for the conduct of all business at all meetings shall be those present and voting. The Officers, by a majority vote, may elect to submit items to the membership by mail or e-mail for a vote in lieu of holding a regular meeting. In this event, members shall be given at least ten days to respond by mail or e-mail, and the quorum shall be the same as that for the conduct of regular meetings.
ARTICLE V: OFFICERS
The “Student Social Media Consultants” shall biannually elect from its membership: (a) a President; (b) a Vice-President; (c) a Secretary/Treasurer. These officers shall each be eligible for re-election. The term of office shall begin on July 1 of each year and run for one semester.
The President shall: (a) preside at all meetings of the “Student Social Media Consultants;" (b) appoint such committees as are provided by these by-laws, or which hereafter may be established.
The Vice-President shall fulfill the duties and assume responsibilities of the President when requested to do so by the President.
The Secretary shall: (a) keep minutes of all meetings of the “Student Social Media Consultants;” (b) prepare and post at least once per month, a list of members and honorary members.
If the Office of the President becomes vacant in the middle of a term, the Vice President shall become President for the remainder of the term.
ARTICLE VI: COMMITTEES:
The Officers shall have the authority to form committees as the Board deems necessary for the proper functioning of the Club.
The Membership Committee reviews applications for membership from non-university personnel and makes its recommendation to the Officers.
The Membership Committee also hears grievances about member misconduct and makes sanction recommendations to the Officers.
ARTICLE VII: USE OF FACILITIES
Questions concerning proper utilization of facilities shall be resolved by Communications and Marketing.
ARTICLE VIII: ADOPTION AND AMENDMENT OF BY-LAWS
By-laws of the “Student Social Media Consultants” may be adopted, repealed, and amended by a two-thirds vote of those present or proxy at the annual meeting.
