Requirements
- Academic achievement of a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher based
on a 4.0 scale
- Community involvement or work experience
- Demonstrate
leadership abilities
- Ability to work effectively as an
individual and team member
- Strong willingness to promote a
positive Latino identity
- Time and commitment to fulfill ATHS
expectations, including meetings and event
Application Process
Completed
applications must be accompanied by the required forms listed below (with the
exception of the recommendation form, if the recommender wishes to personally
send the recommendation form). Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Deadline to submit an application is on Friday, February 15, 2013 by 3 pm.
A fully completed
application consists of the following:
- The
ATHS application. You can
find the official ATHS application by clicking on the Forms and Document tab located
on the left side of this screen.
- Personal
Statement: On a separate sheet of paper, type a one page essay
addressing each of the following:
To be successful it is important to reflect on what standards you hold for
yourself and know what you want to accomplish. With this in mind, what is your personal philosophy on
integrity and education and how would ATHS serve as a resource to attain your
goals?
- Extracurricular
Involvement: On a separate sheet of paper (typed): please indicate any extracurricular
activities, academic honors, leadership awards, community service involvement,
employment, etc.
- TWO
Recommendation Forms: There
is a confidential form included with this application. Please have a teacher,
mentor, or employer complete and submit this form to Marilyn Ramirez. Alternatively,
a sealed recommendation can be turned in with your completed application. *Recommendation letters from staff and
faculty at the Latino Resource Center will not be accepted.
- Official
Transcripts. We must
have official copies, sealed and signed, from your high school (if you’re a
freshman student), NIU and all other post-secondary institutions you have
previously attended. We will not accept unofficial transcripts or a grade
sheet. Please provide your official transcripts at the time you are submitting
your application.
