Forfeiture of vehicle for driving while suspended for D.U.I.

A person convicted of driving while his or her driving privileges are suspended or revoked for the offense of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol faces a mandatory jail sentence of a minimum of 10 days or 30 days of community service.

Under a new Illinois law, a person who drives while suspended for D.U.I. also faces the forfeiture of his or her motor vehicle.

There have been dozens of forfeiture cases brought by the DeKalb County State's Attorney's Office since the law went into effect, and numerous individuals have lost their vehicles.
