NIU Law to Honor Outstanding Award Recipients
at Awards Reception on September 24

DeKalb, Ill.--Northern Illinois University College of Law Dean Mark Cordes and the school's Law Alumni Council will honor seven outstanding alumni and friends of the school during its annual awards reception at the University Club of Chicago on Thursday, September 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The 2015 award recipients were selected based on outstanding achievements in their careers, demonstrated service to the NIU College of Law or their community, and professional integrity. 

The event will feature brief remarks beginning at 6:15 p.m. from Dean Cordes, Alumni Council President Brent Eames (’09), Alumni Council First-Vice President and Awards Chair Melinda Rosales-Byerly (’03), and the award recipients.

The 2015 honorees include:

  • Alumnus of the Year, Eric C. Weis ('97), State's Attorney, Kendall County, Illinois; 
  • Young Alumnus of the Year, Robert M. Morgan ('05), Special Counsel, Much Shelist, P.C., Chicago, Illinois;
  • Distinguished Service Award, Keith C. Grant ('87), Lake County Public Defender's Chief of Special Defense and Professional Development, Waukegan, Illinois; 
  • Outstanding Service Award, Thomas P. Lanigan ('84), Assistant United States Attorney, United States Department of Justice, Fort Lauderdale, Florida;   
  • Public Service Award, The Honorable Ann B. Jorgensen, Illinois Appellate Court - Second District, Elgin, Illinois;   
  • Honorary Alumna Award, Wendy Hinton Vaughn, Clinical Associate Professor and Supervising Attorney, NIU College of Law Zeke Giorgi Legal Clinic, Rockford, Illinois;  
  • Mentor of the Year Award, William C. Obuchowski ('13), attorney/ litigator, Alberts Curran & Eiler, P.C., Chicago, Illinois.
