Tina L. Harris ('98) Installed as First African American
Pastor of Kansas City Church

Tina L. HarrisDeKalb, Ill.--NIU College of Law alumna Tina L. Harris (’98) was installed on November 9, 2014 as the pastor of the Grand Avenue Temple United Methodist Church in Kansas City, MO. Harris is the 37th pastor of the church and the first African American pastor in its 150-year history, according to an official release from the church. Before becoming a minister, Harris was an attorney and diversity expert for the firms of Shook, Hardy & Bacon and Bryan Cave, both in Kanas City.

“I am absolutely thrilled to lead this congregation that has been making such an important impact by meeting needs and serving God in downtown Kansas City," Rev. Harris stated. "People are looking for something different, something real, something that will change their lives. They will find it here.”
