Professor McConkie Presents Upcoming Law Review Article

Professor Daniel McConkie presented a law review article at Northwestern Law School in Chicago on September 14, 2016. Professor McConkie was invited by Professor James Lindgren to present to his Legal Scholarship Seminar. McConkie presented “Structuring Pre-Plea Criminal Discovery,” which will be published soon in the Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, the premier specialty journal in the field.

Professor McConkie Quoted in Salt Lake Tribune

Professor Daniel McConkie was quoted in a story about potential prosecutorial misconduct in the September 10, 2016 edition of the Salt Lake Tribune. The article, written by Tom Harvey and Jennifer Dobner, deals with the possible conflict of interest in former United States Attorney Brent Ward's prosecution of Utah businessman Jeremy Johnson. Ward's case came at the same time he had a relationship with John Swallow, a candidate for Utah attorney general whose campaign was being threatened by Johnson. Professor McConkie was previously interviewed about this case by the Tribune in September of 2015.

Professor McConkie Appears on BYU Radio's "Top of Mind"

Professor Daniel McConkie was a guest on the August 15, 2016 edition of "Top of Mind," a current events program on BYU Radio hosted by Julie Rose. Professor McConkie discussed the decline in jury trials in United States courts as well as how it disagrees with our concept of jury trials in popular media.

Professor McConkie Leads Discussion Group on NIU Common Reading

Professor Daniel McConkie will facilitate a group discussion on the book Just Mercy: a Story of Justice and Redemption by Bryan Stevenson held at Altgeld Hall, room 100 on the NIU campus on Thursday, November 12, 2015. Stevenson's book is the NIU Common Reading for 2015-2017, meaning that it was recommended by a team of faculty, staff and undergraduate students from a group of approximately 15 titles, and will be used by first-year students in NIU's UNIV 101 (University Experience) and 201 (Transfer Experience) courses.

Professor McConkie Interviewed on BYUradio

On November 3, 2015, Professor Daniel McConkie was interviewed by Julie Rose on Top of Mind, a satellite radio program on the official Brigham Young University channel. Professor McConkie discussed the recent release of over 6,000 inmates being held on federal drug charges, as discussed in the November 1, 2015 edition of the New York Times.

Top of Mind is a daily, live news talk and interview show heard nationally on BYUradio's satellite channel (SiriusXM 143), online at www.byuradio.org/topofmind and via iTunes radio. The program aims for a broad, national audience of BYU alumni and people affiliated with Brigham Young University, as well as satellite radio subscribers looking for smart, informative and uplifting radio content.

Professor McConkie Featured in Article on Federal Prosecution

Professor Daniel McConkie was quoted as an expert in federal prosecution in an article by Tom Harvey for the September 14, 2015 edition of the Salt Lake Tribune. The article discusses the pending case against indicted Utah businessman Jeremy Johnson and the potential failure of his attorneys to comply with federal procedures when emailing with their client.
