The Law Library's collections are classified according to the Library of Congress classification scheme, with the exception of federal government publications in the Government Documents area. Since Library material is primarily law and law-related, there are three major classification schedules:
- "H" - Social Science
- "J" - Political Science, including "JX" - International Law
- "K" - General and Comparative Law, including legal periodicals (K1 through K30); jurisprudence, and philosophy of law
- KD - United Kingdom and Ireland
- KE - Canada
- KF - United States.
In the case of the KF schedule, materials pertaining to the individual states follow the general United States material and have call numbers beginning with letters "KFA" (for Alabama, Arizona, etc.) through "KFW". Thus, materials on Illinois are classified "KFI."
The holdings of the Law Library and of the University Libraries can be accessed through the I-SHARE online catalog.
